To all of the Verdunites in the world. We are nearing the 2007 reunion date in Dallas, TX. I plan to be there to meet old friends as well as connect with those of you who are new to us and have never attended a “Verdun Reunion”. We have learned over the years that there is never a stranger among us and we have solidified “old” friendships. There are several things that need to happen if you are going to be in Dallas on August 2nd to 5th, 2007. Most important is to register for the reunion through the Overseas Brats web site (www.overseasbrats.com). The discounts are the steepest until the middle of February. At this time 7 of you have registered and I plan to register the first week of February. Hotel: To reserve a room, call the hotel Hyatt's central reservations number: 1-800-233-1234. You'll need to share that you are attending, "OVERSEAS BRATS Homecoming 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas-Fort Worth Airport" or call the hotel directly at 972-453-1234. Ask for reservations and identifying yourself as attending, "OVERSEAS BRATS Homecoming 2007."

Depending on the number of Verdunites in each city or state I have been emailing people to contact other people in that city or state about the upcoming reunion. I will be doing that again as we get a little closer to the date. Also I have been paying close attention to the list of “lost” Verdunites listed on the Verdun web page to see if I can find any of them. I will be mailing out brochures to those people in hopes of getting the brochures either forwarded or returned to me with a forwarding address on it. When you visit the Verdun web page, please go to the section “LOST” and see if you know the where about of anyone listed.

I am now a “Gold” member on Classmates.Com and have started emailing everyone that’s listed in the Verdun High School section. If you feel that you are being bombarded with emails, just pass them along to anyone in your group addresses. And I continue to reach out to find as many of us as possible by using emails, old fashioned snail mail, and the internet to search for those lost but not forgotten Verdunites.

The reunion committee is in the process of finding us a place to have our own banquet on either Friday or Saturday nights. More on that as we get closer to the August date.

An interesting factoid: In 2007, it will be the 40th anniversary of the Verdun American High School closing. Charlie DeGaulle let administrative units (Hospitals, non-combative units, etc.) stay until the summer of 1967. While everyone else had to leave the country.

PS: I will be sending updates to this web site regarding the progress we are or are not making!

CLASS REUNIONS

Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described
 their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted "least" now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait as they've set the date;
Our sixtieth is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my old hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled,
and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty; I'm ready to party,
I'll dance until dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; and I hope at least one
other person can make it that night
